A: If you take the ferry from Houton to Lyness, on arriving
in Lyness take the first left at sign to Longhope - carry along the shore
road past the village of Longhope. At the sign to Hackness turn left.

Q: What facilities does the cottage have?
A: The cottage has a Dishwasher, Microwave, A Washing
Machine and a Tumble Dryer, a CD player and a TV & Video.
Q: Are there facilities for children?
A: Yes - there is a travel cot (bedding not
provided) and a high chair.
Q: Is the cottage suitable for
a person with disabilities?
A: The property is all on one level. The pavement
is ramped to the front door. All rooms are spacious and there
is a large shower with a base.
Q: Are there shops nearby?
A: The village of Longhope is approximately 2 miles from the cottage
and has a local grocery and post office.
Q: Are there any restaurants or
pubs nearby?
A: In the village there is one pub. You can
also find the Stromabank Hotel, which has a restaurant and pub,
2 miles from Pools Self Catering.
Q: Are there any petrol stations nearby?
A: Petrol can be purchased from the local grocer in
the village of Longhope.
Q: Can my dog stay at the cottage?
A: No - pets are not accepted.
Q: Do I have to pay extra for
heating?
A: No - Oil Central Heating is included
in the cost.
Q: Do I have to pay extra for electricity?
A: Electricity costs extra- payable by a
£1 coin meter.
Q: Will we need to take our own towels and linen?
A: No - all bedding and towels are provided.
Q: Is there a telephone in the property?
A: A payphone is available.
Q: How often does the car ferry
from Hoy travel to the Orkney Mainland?
A: In the summer there are 6 sailings from Hoy
to the Orkney Mainland. There are approximately 4 daily sailings
in the winter. Check out the ferry timetable at www.orkneyferries.co.uk.
Q: Can I smoke in the Pools Self Catering?
A: The cottage is non smoking.
Q: Can we stay for a shorter / longer time than
a week?
A: In summer (high season) the cottage is
a weekly let from Saturday to Saturday. In the low season
(winter) 3 nights is the minimum stay.
Q: Can we stay at Pools Self Catering
in the winter as well as the summer?
A: We are open all year.
Q: Can we stay over holidays (Christmas / Hogmanay
/ Easter)
A: Yes.
Q: Are there any good walks to
do whilst we stay at Pools Self Catering?
A: There are books and maps available
in the property to help you plan a walk.
Q: Are there any sandy beaches
nearby?
A: There are two lovely sandy beaches nearby,
one within approx. 2 miles (kirkhope beach) and one within approx.
3 miles (aithhope beach). Also well worth visiting is the beautiful
beach at Rackwick which is an easy drive to North Hoy.
Q: Are there any activities, events
in the evening?
A: The cottage has books, videos and board games
- you can also check out what local events are happening by visiting
the local grocery store in Longhope Village - posters of upcoming
events should be on display.
